Russian Military Thought, Russian Fascism, and Putin’s War in Ukraine

March 18, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0

Susan Smith-Peter will present some new and very timely research to the RUNY Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies Workshop:

“Russian Military Thought, Russian Fascism, and Putin’s War in Ukraine”

This talk shows the connections between the thought of Alexander Dugin, an important figure in Russian fascism, Russian military thought, and the statements of Vladimir Putin.  By analyzing texts and showing the migration of ideas from Dugin to military programs and Putin’s own speeches, it argues that ideas that leading scholars have determined are indeed fascist are informing the justification for and conduct of Putin’s war in Ukraine.

It will be held virtually via Zoom. Register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link to join the meeting.
